Single Coil

Schaller Lexicon Single CoilA single coil pickup consists of a magnet and a copper-wire coil.
This creates a magnetic field. The voltage on the pickup changes with the movement of the strings when they are struck. This voltage signal is then sent to the amplifier where the signal is made audible.
The use of single coil pickups on guitars is widespread. They deliver a clear sound and they emphasize higher frequencies.
