As part of a reader survey, the Finnish music magazine "Riffi" is giving away a Schaller Tremolo TR under the motto "Bring the classic to you" We were completely unaware of this, which makes the suprise all the more pleasant to learn that "Riffi" truly put our Schaller Tremolo TR rigorously to the test and summarised that it is "A musical gem, through and through!" The Schaller TR 68 Tremolo The Schaller TR 68 Tremolo is a prime example of German engineering mastery and stylish understatement - and has been for decades. The oldest manufacturing plans date back to 1957 although this cannot be 100% proven. Over the decades, the company has made just minor changes to the device. The switch with the two BC173 and BC170 type transistors is still the same, and is still soldered to a circuit board in the same traditional way. The casing cover is still made of plastic, whereas the base plate is made of metal. The high quality state-of-the-art metal switch and the satin-smooth potentiometer are both enhancing modernizations. Newer versions also offer an on-off LED - a definite plus, especially on stage. The general tremolo speed is selected using the toggle switch, and the frequency knob is used for more precise selection. The amount of effect is regulated using the amplitute potentiometer. The LFO generates a sinus curve as the basis for the effect. The variation range of the Schaller pedal spans from barely audible to extreme. Thanks to its design, the TR 68 never degradates the signal i.e. ist basic character remains unaltered, because the strongest tremolo in itself is 'rounded' in character. A musical gem, through and through.

The well-known author André Waldenmaier (see entry under "Specialist Books"), master guitar-builder and owner of Staufer Guitars (www.staufer-guitars.de) wrote an article in the 7/2008 issue of Gitarre&Bass called "Pimp your cheapo". In this engaging and informative article, he explains how to get a cheap guitar to sound at least a little better, and then really make it sing by fitting it with high-quality hardware. To do this, André Waldenmaier chose Schaller machine heads, bridge/tailpiece and security locks. Eddie Van Halen Frankenstein Replika:The people from the Fender Custom Shop reproduced the Van Halen Frankenstein with great dedication and passion for details. With enormous effort, they copied even the smallest scratch, the tiniest dent and every scorch mark of the original Frankenstein. Never has a guitar caused such a stir as this one did, especially because Eddie himself modified it in endless hours of work. Only 300 copies of this guitar were built!
